The history of the Rolex Yacht-Master
Rolex first released the Yacht-Master in 1992, making it one of the brand’s newer models. Rolex rarely introduces entirely new models, in fact, at the time it had been 28 years since their last model introduction; the Daytona. For reference, it took them another 20 years after that to release an entirely new model, the Sky-Dweller. Being a fairly modern watch, there are few vintage models of the Rolex Yacht-Master. The Yacht-Master name first appeared in 1967, with the Rolex Yacht-Master Chronograph Prototype (reference 6239/6242). Only two examples are known to exist – one of which belongs to Eric Clapton!
Rolex Yacht-Master, the watch for sailing
The Yacht-Master watches quickly became a favorite among racing sailors and remain one of Rolex’s most popular sports watches today. Rolex has released several variants over the years. In 2015, Rolex released an updated version of the Yacht-Master with a new case design and a slightly different dial layout. Whether you are a sailor or just enjoy the nautical life, Yacht-Master watches are a great choice for a luxury watch.
Features that make the Rolex Yacht-Master unique
Some of the features that make the Yacht-Master unique are the regatta timer bezel, the wide choice of dial colors, and the water resistance. A regatta timer bezel is a unique tool that allows sailors to time the start of a yacht race. Water resistance is another important feature for sailors, as it means the watch can withstand splashing from waves or immersion in water.
Materials used for the Rolex Yacht-Master
The exclusive materials used for the Yacht-Master are stainless steel, white gold, yellow gold, rose gold, and platinum. The watch is also available in a variety of dial colors, including a blue, brown, green, silver, and black dial. The different materials and colors allow the watch to be customized to the wearer’s style.
Oyster case
As with other Rolex watches, the Yacht-Master features the famous Oyster case. The Oyster case is water resistant and protects the watch from the elements. The YachtMaster is water resistant to 100 meters (330 feet). This means it can withstand splashes from waves or immersion in water making it ideal for sailors or anyone who loves the outdoors.
The dimensions of the Rolex Yacht-Master
The Rolex Yacht-Master comes in different sizes, including 37 mm, 40 mm, and 42 mm. Because of the different sizes, the watch can be worn by both men and women.
The Rolex Yacht-Master II
The Yacht-Master II combines the elegance of the original with modern yacht-racing features. The Rolex Yacht-Master II was unveiled in 2007 and marketed in 2010. The watch was designed with sailors in mind. The dial is easy to read, even in low light, and the regatta timer bezel adds functionality, as it can be used to time the start of a yacht race.
